10 room bijou hotel on the waterfront, the best in Lamu. Great rooms, gardens and food plus two pools - the perfect base for exploring all that
Lamu has to offer!
Entering Kijani House is like stepping into a secret garden. Two aquamarine pools glow gently in the shade of giant kunazi trees, small tables and beach chairs lie in the shade of a profusion of different species of palm trees, and flowering flamboyant and yellow oleanders branch out over large terraces that face the ocean.
The 8 rooms and 2 suites are spread through the garden in three small separate traditional Swahili buildings which formerly were private homes, constructed of coral walls, boriti (mangrove pole)ceiling and makuti (palm
thatch) roofs. Each room has a bathroom and its own balcony or veranda facing the garden or the sea.
The rooms are vast and cool, with sunlight and sea breezes controlled by tall window shutters. A canopied Swahili bed stands beside antique cupboards and tables coloured with hand-painted Indian tiles and painted glass. In the bathroom, intricately carved mirrors set off the sensuous effect of the warm ochre finish of walls, ceiling, and floors.
Kijani's Restaurant menu includes an exotic selection of fresh seafood, Swahili dishes and a touch of Italian cuisine. Fresh tropical fruits and vegetables are delivered daily from Kijani's own farm. The cellar offers a good selection of Italian, South African and Chilean wines.

Kijani is closed for of season during May and June
