Kinasi is a small, private lodge situated in a coconut and cashew plantation facing Chole Bay on Mafia Island. It provides a high standard of accommodation in the bungalows (one is a family unit with two bedrooms), each with a large verandah and ensuite bathroom. The bungalows have been constructed in rendered concrete block, with palm-leaf (makuti) roofs, and concrete foundations and floors. There is all-day mains electricity and hot and cold water supply from three permanent wells on the property. Our rooms not air-conditioned but one cooled by fans and the large shutter doors and windows.
The catering is based upon local seafood: fresh fish, prawns, crab, lobster, octopus and calamari, with fresh vegetables and fruit flown from the mainland. The breads, rolls, pizzas and variety of yoghurts, preserves and sauces are all home made, from traditional recipes. Seafood barbecues and Swahili cuisine are established Kinasi customs.
Most of all there is tranquility and privacy in beautiful, natural surroundings, and our friendly staff will do their best to look after you with service to your rooms, morning tea and coffee with fresh biscuits and cakes, sundowners and cocktails, delicious food and attention to any requests you may have. So enjoy Mafia and this little retreat we have created with all its activities, the swimming pool, gardens and beach, and the relaxed atmosphere and good company.
The large stand-alone cottages have been designed for through-ventilation and coolness in all seasons. The guest rooms and
public areas are beautifully appointed. A complete refurbishment has resulted in our unique “Shirazi Style” created with antiques, designer furniture and exotic fabrics in a historic blend of Indian Ocean influences. All the rooms have king-size beds within walk-in mosquito nets. Each has an en-suite bathroom and covered verandah furnished with hammock, chairs and table, hanging space and shelves, desk and chair, bedside lights and reading lights and fans....everything you need.

An alfresco restaurant, pool bar and grill, a specialised cocktail bar, and cellar with over 1,500 bottles of fine wines all ensure that your palate is not ignored. Seafood barbecues and Swahili buffets provide the flavours of the Indian Ocean with a flair for originality that is exclusive to our chefs. You will find our menus and recipes nowhere else.....
A new relaxation centre will provide massage, aromatherapy, hot stone and hydrotherapy as well as beauty treatments in a dedicated private pavilion.
COTTAGES Kinasi is able to accommodate 28 guests as follows:
• An owner’s suite with upstairs bedroom, stereo, mini-bar and lounge, verandahs and terraces
• a family bungalow with two double bedrooms sharing a bathroom (also suitable for triple or two singles)
• ten cottages with very large double beds
• two cottages with two large single beds (twin/double, as beds can be moved together)

Kinasi provides a variety of massages, reflexology, aromatherapy, facials, manicure and pedicure from its dedicated centre, the Isis Spa. Two full-time professional therapists from Thailand manage the centre.
