Malindi
Situated on the coast of Kenya, North of Mombasa town is the historic town of Malindi. An amazing mixture of tourist kitsch, fascinating ancient mosques, a colourful market and long white sandy beaches with a casino, night clubs and a nine hole golf course! The main attractions are the renowned Malindi Marine National Park and Big Game Fishing. Snorkelling and scuba diving on the coral gardens in the middle of this Marine Park reveals a dazzling array of technicoloured fish of various sizes and impossible shapes. Beyond the reef the giants of the sea await the attention of serious anglers, most of whom are hopeful of adding to Kenya's impressive list of World records for big game fish.
The coast of Kenya features 480 kilometres of silver white sandy beaches fringed with palms, fascinating mangrove swamps and magical creeks, all washed by the turquoise water of the Indian Ocean. For much of it's length, from Malindi in the North to Vanga in the South, the shore is protected by a living coral reef. More than 250 brilliantly coloured species of fish, marine plants and other creatures live in the sheltered lagoons. The Marine Parks of Watamu, Malindi, Mombasa and Shimoni protect these reefs and the waters they embrace. The reefs, coral garden and lagoons are a paradise for snorkelling and scuba diving whilst the open waters a mecca for game fishing.
