OVERVIEW
From December 1st to March 31st the camp is located in the south eastern Serengeti, a perfect location from which to witness the literally thousands of newly born Wildebeest and Zebra but, aside from the Migration, this area offers excellent game viewing all year around and is also an ideal stop en route from Ngorongoro to the central, northern and western Serengeti.
From June 1st to November 15th ,2010 the Camp will be located at a fantastic site right on the Mara River in the Northern Serengeti where the Bolongonja River meets the Mara River, about 35 mins east of Sayari Camp. The section of Mara River in front of the camp is a wildebeest crossing site, so the possibility at last exists to see river crossings during breakfast! The site has views of the river and offers plenty of hippo, lion, Migration and elephant action at nights. The site gives access to the Bolongonja area (to the east), the Wogakuria area (to the south) and the Mara triangle (to the north-west). The area of the camp is very exclusive – no other camps are close to the site but it is only 40 minutes drive away from Kogatende airstrip with daily scheduled flights from Arusha and Manyara.
Game drives will be along the Mara River (in front of camp), and to Bolongonja (to the east), Wogakuria (to the south) and possibly the Nyamalumbwas area (rhino protected area north of camp). Walking safaris are possible between Sayari Camp and Olakira Camp making for a unique combination. The walks are guided by Sayari Camp guides and it will be possible to walk out of Sayari Camp towards Olakira Camp or vice versa, with part of the way by vehicle on a game drive and the balance walking
Olakira may also be combined with Dunia Camp located in Moru Kopjes area, thus covering the whole of the Serengeti and the Wildebeest Migration with game drives from Dunia into Southern and Western Serengeti and from Olakira into Eastern and Northern Serengeti
Olakira Camp offers the perfect balance between an authentic, intimate bush experience and the luxuries of space, well-equipped bathrooms and large comfortable beds. After a day of intense game drives, this camp is a serene haven to which to return and, in the evening, the accomplished chef and his staff serve delicious food in the dining tent or around the campfire.
